SHIBUMI ISSUE 54

Built for the Beach. Used Everywhere.

Built for the Beach. Used Everywhere.

Beach chairs have been around, and imperfect, for decades. Some are too heavy, others rust after a season or two. Plenty of them promise "unmatched comfort"... right up until the moment an aluminum bar reminds you exactly where it's hiding.

For years, finding a beach chair meant choosing where you wanted to compromise. At Shibumi, we thought there had to be a better way.

Just like we reimagined beach shade, we set out to rethink another piece of gear people had quietly settled for. The result was the Shibumi Chair: thoughtfully designed, incredibly comfortable, and built to handle years of salty beach days without weighing you down getting there.

And beachgoers loved them.

But something unexpected happened along the way. Our chairs started showing up in places without sand. As Shibumi expanded beyond the beach with Park Vista—our lightweight portable shade for parks, sidelines, and backyards—we realized the same thoughtful design that makes our chairs perfect for beach days makes them just as at home everywhere else. Soccer games, concerts, campgrounds, backyard cookouts—anywhere people gather outside, our chairs seem to fit right in.

The Classic Chair: Lower to the Sand, Higher on Comfort.

Beach chairs have one job: make you want to stay a little longer. Whether you're wrapped in a towel after your first swim, reclined all the way back for an afternoon nap while the kids build sandcastles, or simply watching the crashing waves, the best chair is the one you stop thinking about. That's exactly what we designed the Shibumi Classic Chair to be.

Sitting 12 inches off the sand, it delivers that relaxed, laid-back beach feel with no sacrifices on comfort. Breathable DreamWave fabric suspends your body to help eliminate the pressure points caused by traditional beach chairs, while four reclining positions let you choose exactly how horizontal you'd like your afternoon to become.

Underneath it all is an anti-rust marine-grade aluminum frame that's built for years of salty beaches, with padded backpack straps that make carrying it surprisingly easy. At just 8 pounds, it's light enough that bringing it along never feels like a chore, and thoughtful details like the included drink holder and essentials holder keep everything you need within reach.

But comfort like this doesn't stop at the shoreline. The Classic Chair feels just as at home during relaxed park picnics, neighborhood concerts, backyard evenings with friends, or slower-paced afternoons on the sidelines.

Some chairs stay in the garage; this one has a habit of living in the trunk.

The Tall Chair: A Better View of the Day.

Not everybody wants to sit low to the ground, and with our Tall Chair, you don't have to. Whether you're a little taller, prefer an easier sit-to-stand, or simply like having a better view of everything happening around you, sometimes a little extra height makes all the difference.

Standing 17 inches off the ground, the Shibumi Tall Chair delivers the same signature comfort with a little more elevation. DreamWave fabric works alongside the NapCurve headrest to create a suspended seating experience that supports your body while keeping pressure off your neck, making long afternoons surprisingly effortless.

Despite sitting higher off the ground, it weighs just 9 pounds and carries comfortably with padded backpack straps. A marine-grade aluminum frame resists rust season after season, while four reclining positions let you lean back exactly as much, or as little, as you'd like.

The added height also makes it a natural fit beyond the beach. Long tournament weekends, baseball sidelines, campgrounds, backyard cookouts, lakeside afternoons. Anywhere you might spend a few extra hours outside becomes a little more comfortable when getting in, and getting back out is almost as easy as sitting down.

Chair Accessories That Make Things Even Easier

Bringing more than one chair? Our Two-Chair Carry Clips let you clip two Shibumi Chairs together, so the walk to your spot is hands-free and hassle-free.

And for oversized insulated mugs that are now everyone's summer sidekick, the Shibumi XL Cup Holder keeps drinks up to 42 ounces right where they belong.

It's all part of the same philosophy: less hauling, more lounging.

Designed for the Beach. Ideal Everywhere Else.

The beach has always been the toughest proving ground. As you probably know better than anyone, salt, sand, and sun are tough on your gear. And if a chair can handle all of that, the rest of summer should feel like a walk in the park.

That's exactly what happened with the Shibumi Chair. The more people brought it to the beach, the more they realized it belonged just about everywhere else too. Lightweight enough to grab without thinking, durable enough to live in the back of your car all summer, and comfortable enough that you’ll look for any reason to bring it along.

Although we initially designed our chairs for long days by the ocean, they fit just as naturally at soccer fields, baseball diamonds, backyard cookouts, and everywhere else summer takes you.

A Chair for Wherever Summer Takes You

The best outdoor gear has a funny way of becoming part of your routine. You buy it with one application in mind, but then it quietly earns a permanent spot in your trunk.

At Shibumi, that's exactly what we design for. Whether you're stretching out on the sand, cheering from the sidelines, listening to live music in the park, or spending an evening around the backyard fire pit, the right chair has a way of making every moment just a little more comfortable.

Because the best seat in the house often isn't actually in the house. Take "the best seat" with you, with the Shibumi Chair.
