Chief Of Staff - Product, Marketing & Wholesale

Shibumi is a fast-growing outdoor lifestyle brand in Raleigh, NC. In 2016, two brothers and their best friend — stuck with beach setup duty on every family vacation and fed up with the shades on the market — built a better one. The Shibumi Shade works with the wind instead of against it: light, quick to set up, hard to break. It now has a cult following from Emerald Isle to Santa Monica and from Cape Cod to Oahu. Our 2025 Beach Chair became an instant best-seller, winning awards from NY Times Wirecutter, Forbes, Dwell, and the Daily Mail. We sell direct-to-consumer and through premium local retailers.

The Role

The Chief of Staff – Product, Marketing, and Wholesale is the CEO’s strategic and execution partner across these three disciplines, working alongside three of our most senior leaders. You’ll move between long-term strategy, consumer research, and hands-on project execution — often in the same day. You’ll be a member of the Leadership Team and have a counterpart who manages Operations, Finance, Logistics, and E-Commerce.

What You’ll Own

Consumer insight. Design and run the research — surveys, focus groups, concept and product testing, pricing, segmentation — that tells us who our customer is, what they want, what our products need to deliver, and how they respond to our creative.

Commercial analysis. Build the business cases behind new products, line extensions, pricing, and positioning. Set KPIs before we invest and measure honestly afterward, separating correlation from causation in what’s actually driving performance.

Product decisions. Define the criteria for Gate and Go/No-Go meetings, bring the analysis that makes those calls clear. Run the process for the company: work with product leadership, marketing, to ensure that all products are developed timely, decisions are made early, and we have the right data and insights to support our innovation plans.

Marketing accountability. Build protocols to assess and grade the return on top-of-funnel initiatives and partnerships; maintain the integrated marketing calendar and ongoing budget visibility, and surface bottlenecks and slipping deadlines early.

Whatever matters most. Special projects for the CEO, plus stepping into high-priority work that needs more analytical or execution horsepower.
